The project will focus on reducing falls for patients in the community- either through Support at Home agencies or third sector groups. The aim would be to use QTUG (Quantitative Timed Up and Go) equipment to assess a person’s falls risk. QTUGs are used during a patient walking assessment and give a percentage of how likely that individual is to fall.
We are working with patients who have a 50% likelihood of falling while at home. Individual/group exercise programmes are carried out with the patient twice a week for one hour either in the patient’s home or in a community group. Exercises that can be done between sessions, at home are also demonstrated and further assessments are carried out using QTUGs to measure progress.
We will be working with 100 patients through this Vanguard project.
